in the conversion kit you have a gearbox crossmember. do you make these separately and are they for a type9?

also can i use "pair offest sperical mounts" to bring in the track width to fit wider wheels?

Hi, Yes the gearbox member is sold seperatly. The member costs 60,00 and the top mounts are 70. Combined post will be 12.

Alan, did you ever race hot rods with Kevin Wood, he's one of the nicer blocks out there i have met. I've brought a few parts of Kevin for my Thames and my Prefect, both having his race type engine mounts fitted. One of the other parts i have fitted to my Thames is the rear 'A' frame, I've noticed you have yours welded to the top of the axle, unlike Kevin's which is welded to the bottom, is there a reason why you done it this way, i take it there is no issues with it hitting the floor. Take a look at my section, you can see mine fitted.

to Lotus 300e. Re "A" frame

Post  Alan Dent on Mon Feb 15 2010, 09:34

Hi, when you mount a "A" frame under the axle , as the spring flattens out under cornering or acceleration the spring saddle moves back, it cant do this because the link bars fight against this movement, hence you only use the back part of the spring. This is why they work better with lowering blocks as it can force some movement through the blocks. This is why they are good for drifting. But in oval racing the last thing you want is the back end sliding as it slows forward motion . "But they look good when you look under the car" I mount mine on top of the axle because as the spring saddle moves back as the spring flattens it pulls the diff nose down, which gives more instant grip. The "A" frame was used in the states and lotus tried it but soon took it of as it always lifted the unloaded front wheel, it looked good but was not fast. The real "A" frame is mounted in 3 pionts kevins and mine are tramp bars and stop the axle moving side to side,If you draw this out on paper you will see how each one works. I did race when Kevin was racing,[ it seems soooooo long ago ]. Milton do make some lovely parts for the anglia. This is why I am trying to design different parts to them as I have no wish to be accused of copiying his parts.

Re: Comments And Questions..

Post  Lotus 300e on Tue Feb 16 2010, 21:29

Thanks for the information Alan, nice to hear the reason why you done it this way. What i like about the 'A' frame set up compared with the parallel tramp bars is it puts more stress on trying to compress the bars and less wear on the bushes when cornering, where as the parallel type all the stress is on the bushes, so wear and tear is far greater. My main concern is not the axle winding up under load, but the side ways (body roll) when cornering due to the heavy body and narrow springs.

My Prefect has the parallel tramp bars fitted, with 185/60 tyres on 6J Lotus wheels with 1" spacers fitted and 2" lowering blocks works great.

The reason i went for the 'A' frame was due to my van having no rear floor to weld to, so the way the 'A' frame was fitted made it perfect, it also will give me more room for rear exhaust system, unlike the Prefect being a side exit one.

I hope i haven't made you feel to old.

Additionally...
Any chance you can knock up some narrow 2" lowering blocks escort jobbies to wide to use with standard 100e shock mounts.
Thanks
